REPUBLIC OF FINLAND SINCE 1918:
Finland became a republic in 1918 when the monarchy had been abolished shortly after achieving the independence from Russia in 1917.

President Kaarlo Juho Ståhlberg

1919-1925: KAARLO JUHO STÅHLBERG
Born in 1865 in Suomussalmi to Johan Gabriel Ståhlberg and Amanda Gustafa née Castrén.
Elected President in 1919.
Died in 1952 in Helsinki.
Buried in Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki.

1925-1931: LAURI KRISTIAN RELANDER
Born in 1883 in Kurkijoki, Karelia to Evald Kristian Relander and Gertrud Maria née Olsoni.
Elected President in 1925.
Died in 1942 in Helsinki.
Buried in Hietaniemi Cemetery in Helsinki.

President Pehr Eivind Svinhufvud

Born in 1861 in Sääksmäki to Pehr Gustaf Svinhufvud af Qvalstad and Olga née von Becker.
Elected President in 1931.
Died in 1944 in Luukmäki.

Elected President in 1940, reelected in 1943. Resigned in 1944.
Died in 1956 in Helsinki.

Born in 1867 in Askainen to Count Carl Roberet Mannerheim and Hedvig Charlotta Helena née von Julin.
Elected President in 1944, resigned in 1946.
Died in 1951 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Born in 1870 in Koski as Johan Gustaf Hellsten to August Hellsten and Karolina Wilhelmina née Selin.

Born in 1900 in Pielavesi to Juho Kekkonen and Emilia née Pylvänäinen.
Elected President in 1956, reelected in 1962, 1968, 1978. Resigned in 1981.

HELSINKI-MEILAHTI:
THE TAMMINIEMI VILLA (Tamminiemi) - the former residence of Finnish presidents from 1940 to 1981. It served as the official residence of President Urho Kekkonen. Now it houses the Urho Kekkonen Museum.

HELSINKI-MEILAHTI:
THE MÄNTYNIEMI RESIDENCE (Mäntyniemi) - the official residence of Finnish presidents since 1993.

HELSINKI:
THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE (Presidentinlinna) - a former residence of Russian governors-general of Finland and under Czar Nicholas II the residence of Grand Dukes of Finland. From 1919 to 1993 the palace was the main official residence of Finnish presidents.
