1923-1938: MUSAFA KEMAL ATATÜRK
Born in 1881 in Salonica to Ali Rıza Efendi and Zübeyde Hanım as Mustafa.
Became President in 1923.
Died in 1938 in Istanbul.
Buried firstly in the Ethography Museum in Ankara, reburied in 1953 in Anitkabir Mausoleum in Ankara.
1938-1950: ISMET INÖNÜ
Born in 1884 in Izmir to Haci Resid Bey and Cevriye Hanim as Ismet Pasa.
Elected President in 1938, reelected in 1946.
Died in 1973 in Ankara.
Buried in Anitkabir Mausoleum in Ankara.
1950-1960: CELÂL BAYAR
Born in 1883 in Umurbey as Mahmut Celalettin Bayar.
Elected President in 1950, reelected in 1954 and in 1957.
Deposed in the 1960 coup d’état and imprisoned for 4 years.
Died in 1986 in Istanbul.
Buried in the cemetery in Umurbey near Bursa.
1960-1966: CEMAL GÜRSEL
Born in 1895 in Erzurum.
Became President in 1960.
Died in 1966 in Ankara.
Buried firstly in Anitkabir Mausoleum in Ankara, reburied in 1988 in the State Cemetery in Ankara.
1966-1973: CEVDET SUNAY
Born in 1899 in Caykara near Trabzon.
Elected President in 1966.
Died in 1982 in Istanbul.
Buried in the State Cemetery in Ankara.
1973-1980: FAHRI KORUTÜRK
Born in 1903 in Istanbul.
Elected President in 1973.
Died in 1987 in Istanbul.
Buried in the State Cemetery in Ankara.
1980-1989: KENAN EVREN
Born in 1917 in Alasehir.
Became provisional President in the 1980 coup.
Elected President in 1982.
1989-1993: TURGUT ÖZAL
Born in 1927 in Malatya.
Elected President in 1989.
Died in 1993 in Ankara.
Buried in Istanbul next to the Mausoleum of Adnan Menderes.
